Best Time to Visit Morocco: A Season-by-Season Guide
By the Morocco Calling family · · 6 min read

Morocco is a year-round destination, but the "best" time depends on where you want to go. The country stretches from the Mediterranean to the Sahara, with mountains reaching over 4,000 metres in between — so the weather in Marrakech, the desert, the Atlas and the coast can be very different on the same day.
Quick answer
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons for a classic tour combining cities, mountains and the Sahara. Days are warm and sunny, nights are mild and the light is beautiful for photography.
Morocco season by season
Spring (March – May)
Probably the most beautiful season. The Atlas valleys are green, almond and fruit trees blossom, and the Valley of Roses celebrates its harvest in May. Temperatures are comfortable almost everywhere. Easter holidays can be busy, so book early.
Summer (June – August)
Hot inland: Marrakech and Fes are often very hot, and the Sahara is extremely hot in the middle of the day. The Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Agadir) and the mountains are much fresher. A desert trip is still possible — we simply start early and rest during the hottest hours.
Autumn (September – November)
Another excellent season. The heat fades, the dates are harvested in the southern palm groves and the desert is pleasant both day and night. It is our favourite time for long tours such as the 10 Days Grand Morocco itinerary.
Winter (December – February)
Sunny, crisp days and cold nights, with snow on the High Atlas peaks. The Sahara is calm and clear, but desert nights can drop close to freezing — camps provide heavy blankets. Christmas and New Year are popular, so plan ahead.
Ramadan
Ramadan follows the Islamic lunar calendar, so its dates change every year. Travelling during Ramadan is absolutely possible: tourist sites stay open, and the evening atmosphere when families break the fast is special. Some restaurants may close during the day, and opening hours can change. We will let you know if your dates fall during Ramadan.
Best time by destination
- Sahara (Merzouga, Zagora): October to April, avoiding the coldest nights in December–January if you feel the cold.
- Marrakech and Fes: March to May and September to November.
- High Atlas trekking: April to June and September to October.
- Atlantic coast: pleasant all year; ideal in summer.
